We have received reports of scammers posing as bank representatives in attempts to gain access to customers’ accounts and funds.
What’s Happening:
- Scammers are spoofing financial institutions’ phone numbers, making calls to customers that appear legitimate.
- They pretend to be bank representatives and may reference recent (real or fabricated) transactions to appear credible.
- Scammers attempt to trick customers into clicking malicious links, providing sensitive information (login credentials, one-time passcodes, token information, and other sensitive data), or granting access to online banking.
- Their goal is to take over existing accounts or deceive victims into authorizing payments—such as ACH transfers or wire transfers—to accounts controlled by the fraudsters.
- Scammers create a sense of urgency or fear, such as claiming your account will be frozen or that a large, unauthorized transaction requires immediate action.
