{"id":5334,"date":"2026-01-31T16:13:56","date_gmt":"2026-01-31T16:13:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.amerantbank.com\/ofinterest\/?p=5334"},"modified":"2026-02-02T16:54:35","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T16:54:35","slug":"security-alert-scammers-impersonating-bank-representatives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amerantbank.com\/ofinterest\/security-alert-scammers-impersonating-bank-representatives\/","title":{"rendered":"Security Alert: Scammers are Impersonating Bank Representatives"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We have received reports of scammers posing as bank representatives in attempts to gain access to customers\u2019 accounts and funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-s-happening\">What\u2019s Happening:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Scammers are spoofing financial institutions\u2019 phone numbers, making calls to customers that appear legitimate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They pretend to be bank representatives and may reference recent (real or fabricated) transactions to appear credible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scammers attempt to trick customers into clicking malicious links, providing sensitive information (login credentials, one-time passcodes, token information, and other sensitive data), or granting access to online banking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Their goal is to take over existing accounts or deceive victims into authorizing payments\u2014such as ACH transfers or wire transfers\u2014to accounts controlled by the fraudsters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scammers create a sense of urgency or fear, such as claiming your account will be frozen or that a large, unauthorized transaction requires immediate action.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-protection-and-prevention\">Protection and Prevention<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Verify Independently: <\/strong>If you receive an unexpected call from your financial institution, hang up and contact them using a trusted phone number.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Be Skeptical of Requests:<\/strong> Legitimate banks will never ask for your password, PIN, one-time passcode, token information, or other sensitive data through text, email, or unsolicited calls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Use Official Amerant Websites:<\/strong> Avoid clicking on unsolicited links sent via SMS.
