What Makes a Workplace Worth Being Part Of

Think about the people who have made the biggest impact on your career. Chances are, someone believed in you before you were ready to believe in yourself. That opportunity may have changed the direction of your career and the way you think about the workplace you want to be part of.

As SVP, Head of Talent and Sustainability at Amerant Bank, Kristy Amaro focuses on creating those opportunities throughout the team member experience. During a recent interview on Inside South Florida, she shared how learning, career development, and team member involvement all contribute to a culture where people can continue growing throughout their careers.

Growth looks different for everyone

No two careers follow the same path. Some opportunities come through formal training. Others happen because a leader encourages someone to step outside their comfort zone or take on a new responsibility.

At Amerant, team members are encouraged to take an active role in that journey. Through Be An All Star In Your Career at Amerant, team members create personalized career development plans that help them identify goals and the skills they want to continue building.

Learning opportunities continue throughout the year. Team members can participate in open-enrollment courses covering a variety of topics, including new technologies such as Microsoft Copilot.

“We want our team members to continue learning throughout their careers,” Kristy shared.

Built Around People

Career development is only one part of the experience.

Kristy believes culture becomes stronger when team members have opportunities to contribute beyond their day-to-day responsibilities. The Amerant Resource Groups give them a chance to share ideas, build connections, and create experiences that reflect their team members’ interests.

Because these groups are led by team members, they bring a unique sense of ownership that continues to strengthen the workplace.

“When team members create something for one another, there’s a different level of ownership,” Kristy explained. “People genuinely care about making those experiences valuable.”

Leadership programs also help team members continue developing professionally while building relationships across different areas of the bank.

Learning goes beyond the classroom

Development doesn’t stop after a training session or a new course.

Mentoring relationships, stretch assignments, and opportunities to work on visible projects allow team members to continue building experience while preparing for future opportunities.

Kristy believes every career journey is different, which is why creating opportunities to learn remains an important part of Amerant’s culture.

Strengthening the communities we serve

Giving back is another way team members connect with one another while making a difference outside the workplace.

Throughout the year, Amerant partners with organizations across the communities it serves, and many volunteer opportunities welcome family members as well. Those experiences create lasting connections while reinforcing the bank’s commitment to community involvement.

For Kristy, seeing team members volunteer alongside their families makes those moments especially meaningful.

The Power of Us

Amerant has been recognized by the Best Practice Institute as one of the Most Loved Workplaces® for several consecutive years.

When asked what sets the organization apart, Kristy’s answer was immediate.

“Our people are what make Amerant special.”

Culture is shaped by the people who choose to support one another, continue learning, and contribute to something larger than themselves. That commitment is what helps make Amerant a workplace worth being part of.
